The United Kingdom Set to Employ Immobilized Russian Funds to Support Ukraine's Defense

The UK is set to progress with utilizing the entire amount of frozen Russia's funds to bolster Ukraine's war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a shared declaration, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this coordinated action would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They clarified that the initiative would be implemented in close cooperation with the US.

British penalties have immobilized over £25bn of Russian resources since the Russian government began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, resources sent to the Ukrainian government using Russian holdings had exclusively been sourced from gains and dividends earned on them.
