The anticipation about the recent awards show has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team could be building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of specialized paths that are viable with a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in diverse methods, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
More to Come
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
