Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, lying with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the escape zone, and was blessed to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the high-speed corner approaching the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
