England's Bowling Consultant Southee Unsure on The Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's most recent Test for the Kiwis was against England in December 2024.
England's fast-bowling advisor Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be at the upcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The former Kiwi pace bowler is only likely to be present for the first Test because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which begins on December 2 in the UAE.
Southee, 36, took up a role as England's fast bowling consultant in the warmer months after claiming 391 scalps in 107 Tests for the Kiwis.
Commenting as England's squad for the opening of three T20 matches against New Zealand was announced, Southee stated of his availability: "We are still evaluating that at the present time.
"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."
England pace icon Stuart Broad had declared the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but Southee was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the series, which begins on 21 November.
"In my view there's at any time a poor Aussie side," he said.
"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the quality of [England's] team that's going out to Australia is excellent.
"It should be an thrilling encounter, that series. Not just [are|do] fans from both nations looking forward to it, I think the whole cricket world is."
But, before England travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on New Zealand in the city of Christchurch on this Saturday.
